I have HP Pavillion DV5 T7500. It renders Base System Device Drivers as not installed with error code 28. please help

From the desktop press Windows key X A

Or

Press Windows key R, type CMD, click ENTER, Run As Administrator

It ll open CMD as administrator

Type: sfc /scannow

Note: there is a space between the sfc and slash

Wait for the results: if there are any integrity violations.

Do a complete hard drive memory test by entering BIOS by pressing ESC/F2/F10 just after powering on laptop in System Diagnostics

Check again in Control Panel if the programs/softwares you downloaded has been uninstalled.

Also do uninstall the 3rd party Antivirus/Firewall if any installed, check if that is causing the problem.

Remove ALL external devices except mouse / keyboard and network LAN if LAN connected.

Tap at F8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console,

use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter - how long does it take to load the Desktop in this mode.

I hope that you have already reduced the number of start-up programs,

if not it may well still be that one of the allowed start-up applications is causing this issue.

Having less services at startup will decrease boot time and probably speed up a Shutdowns Boot up

Start the notebook

let Windows fully load.

Hold down the Windows key and press R.

In to the Run box type msconfig and hit enter.

In the following window, click the Start up tab, open Task Manager, disable each start up item and then click Apply to make the change.

Reboot the notebook, let Windows fully load and then see if it now shuts down restart correctly.

If it does, re-enable one start up item at a time, click Apply and reboot - then check if it still shuts down OK.

Dont disable apps related to drivers it may slow down computers, search each start up programs in Google to check what it does.

You should only enable running at startup the services/apps that you mostly need.

Keep doing this until you encounter the problem and you will know the last program you set to start is causing the slow shut downs/ Start up

Also,

Try turning off the fast/hybrid boot option. Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Also

You can try this one : Download BootRacer - Test your Windows boot speed

Thanks,

There are NO dumb questions, just the people who DO NOT ask them

Hi,

I m deeply sorry to tell you that you can get your HP Split and throw it away, because you won t find a solution for this problem, it is not a driver problem, corrupted file or anything else the HP Experts are going to tell you if you google about this problem you ll see LOTS of people are experiencing exactly the same problem.

Myself included. . and I ve been trying a solution for weeks now and noone can help, because the simple fact it is a hardware design issue

If you see, you have two parts of the laptop, the screen with everything inside and the dockstation that works with the touchpad, keyboard, etc

If you try to use the TouchPad or the earphone jacket and try to touch or move gently the screen you ll see both will start to fail the jack that connects both parts were poorly designed and can t handle the possibility of a sudden movement it will lose contact for a few miliseconds, time enough to force Windows to shutdown the peripherical, in our case, to stop TouchPad.

I found a work around for the TouchPad, you can go to Device Manager windows key x and then m and unninstall the Synaptics TouchPad including the driver and go back to a generic mouse driver from Microsoft, your problem won t disappear, but it ll happen a lot less than before.

I complained this on other HP foruns, on their helpdesk and none of them will tell this is a known and critical issue affecting ALL the HP Models.

Sorry to inform you that, but HP is not concerned if re you happy after you bought the computer.

Leo

Well. . it solved MY problem. . and I decided to share my experience. . and I really can t confirm it ll be the same with your laptop.

I took the decision to reinstall everything because I m on vacation. . I did like this ultrabook. . and I was almost throwing it against the wall with this problems I listed before. . it was a matter of time hahahaha

So I decided the clean installation because I really wanted to give it a try and because I don t like OEM installations, they include things we don t want to, and even if you trying to remove them, it ll always keep something behind.

I don t know what caused the freezing/leeking memory problem but I really don t want those softwares from HP to tell me what to do with my laptop it s too much software you don t need to.

When I upgraded from factory windows 8 to the windows 8.1 using the Windows Store, it said that the Touchpad driver was incompatible and I had to reinstall it after the upgrade was done, so I did and the problems started sooo. . I think something or some configuration were left behind that was causing a kind of conflict I m not an expert . .

The only thing I can say is my laptop is better now. . it s working as it was supposed to work. . the touchpad gestures is working. . it s not freezing. . I can use a headphone and touch the screen without and gap in the sound. . my wireless is not dropping connections beside I didn t install the windows update for Intel N wireless driver and I won t because it is working now.

So. . if you decide to go with a clean installation of Windows 8.1 you need to keep in mind you can install everything again from HP website, there are all drivers and softwares there, including those from support the only thing you won t find is the recovery media, this one you need to request by mail for free and it takes a few days to arrive.

But in my case I couldn t use my Windows KEY extracted before I started the clean installation from BIOS the new windows 8.1 I tried to install said I couldn t use the KEY provided, but I had another one from Microsoft DreamSpark program for free, so, for me it worked fine.

If you have any doubt, feel free to ask before you start to kill the factory installation.

I do have all hardware working, all the drivers are available from windows driver or from hp support website.

On my research while looking for a solution for my problem I m pretty sure that I read somewhere that someone forced the installation of the new version of Synaptics Touchpad found on their website. . but I remember Windows would not allow a non signed driver to be installed unless you reboot and go to a kind of boot menu to deactivate this security function. . and before you install, people told you need to remove some lines from the installation inf file. . and I m pretty sure some people told they did get the memory leak resolved.

So. . Synaptics may have released a driver update that solved the problem, but the OEMs need to make for their products and get it signed from Microsoft now. . /

I m done for experiments for now. . I ve got 4gb and I reboot everyday I was used to hibernate, but for now a reboot is fine and I can live with that for a while and I won t blame hp for this one because I read this problem showed on lenovo, sony, toshiba and others..

but if you decide to do it. . please. . come back and tell us what happened

Thank you D

There are other alternatives to the link I ve provided for reinstalling Windows. LeoSP does mention doing a clean install with Windows 8.1, which he was able to obtain from school. This, however, won t be an option for everyone, nor would it be expected. The link I ve provided may or may not work for others.

The other options aren t a clean install of Windows 8/8.1, they would be using either the OS recovery utilities or recovery media to reinstall the OS. I don t recall any mention of this being attempt as of yet, not that it hasn t been. Also, something simpler would be a system Refresh.

If a person just simply uninstalling Windows and reinstalling it, then adding the same driver packaged worked, either of those may work as well. If they don t, the feedback could indicate some other pre-installed software could be the cause. This would be valuable information.

Also, in regards to the suggestion of uninstalling the driver and using a Windows generic. You are right divieira , this is a workaround and currently the best I ve come across.

One other area that I do recall some input on was uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. My question on this, was it the newest for your Notebook or was it the original. The newest Synaptic driver HP has currently is here: Synaptics TouchPad Driver. However, you can use the HP Recovery Manager to roll back to the original driver.

In regards to this: The actual solution would be for HP to release a fixed version of this driver. On this post, LeoSP pointed out Synaptics released a fix, but OEMs need to roll them out to their devices. More on that on this thread from another forum. Do you see any perspective of that coming.

Finally, HP threads are reviewed for quality control and feedback. At this time I have no further information on this topic, except to join this conversation for some troubleshooting ideas.

Thank you all for your input.

I worked on behalf of HP.

I had already downloaded the driver update from Synaptic, and installed with no errors.  It didn t fix the problem completely, so I m still having to use an external mouse.  Not a big deal, really, since the only time I use the mouse is when the keyboard is attached to my HP Split x2.  The disconnection between touchpad and screen was still occurring even after the driver update, and was just another reminder of the frustration.  HOWEVER, in the Synaptic Touchpad settings, under the Mouse properties, I checked the box that says Disable internal pointing device when external USB device is attached.   I ve been working on my laptop for hours today, and haven t had a freeze, disappearing mouse pointer, or had to detach/reattach my screen and keyboard even once.  A check of the memory shows no leak, so I m willing to live with this.

In a perfect world, all the hardware would interact harmoniously, but since I bought a new device with all these cool features, the external mouse is no big deal.  Besides, I ve never been a big touchpad user anyway.  I always use a desk when in full laptop configuration, and always use a mouse even with Dell my work laptop the only time I don t use a mouse is when my screen is detached in tablet mode and I m only using the touchscreen anyway with minimal typing games and web surfing.   It would have been nice if HP had devoted a technician to researching and resolving this instead of users having to help one another in a forum, but alas I suppose that s what the forum is for, yes.

I recently created my recovery CD s. My question to anyone outhere is: How many times can I use them. Is it just one time or can they be used multiple times.

PM

You can only create the set ONCE but you can use many times. Hope you don t have to use every month. By the way, from time to time they may be damaged therefore please keep carefully.

Regards.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop. . bought it in Dec 2013 it came with OS Windows 8 Then it asked me did I want to upgrade to Windows 8.1.  I pressed yes and thought I did upgrade from way back then when I first had bought the computer. now it seems I might not have.

My question is. . I know if you update your computer from example XP to Windows 7, you will lose everything saved on your harddrive if u don t transfer them somewhere else.

Is this the same for going from Windows 8.0 to 8.1..

Somehow I have managed to completely delete Windows 8.1 off my notebook.  Kids were messing around and idk what all happened.  When I turn the laptop on it states there is no Operating System, when I get to a screen it has 5 partitions that all show 0s and have 0 information saved to it.  I baught this new and there were no recovery discs and such in the box.  What do i do.

HP doesn t recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a consumer computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.

Your computer doesn t qualify for Microsoft Downgrade Rights. You will need to purchase a copy of Windows 7 with a valid COA and product key.

You will need to DISABLE Secure Boot and ENABLE Legacy Support in the BIOS Secure Boot configuration on the settings page similar to what is shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;

After saving the changes, the computer will request that you confirm the changes Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and pressing the ENTER key.

If are you are installing from a USB stick and see a Load Driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing message, this is because System Configuration USB3.0 Config in Pre-Boot is set to Enabled. This must be set to Auto. This should clear up the CD/DVD device missing.

Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. Turn on or reboot the computer and tap F9 or ESC and then F9 when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press ENTER.

I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive may require DISABLING Fast Boot in the BIOS  as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer and FAT32.

From the top

1   Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the ESC key.

2   When the MENU comes up, press the F10 key.

3   Navigate the BIOS to System Configuration, USB 3.0 Config in Pre-OS and set to Auto.

4   Navigate the BIOS to  System Configuration, Boot Options and set Secure Boot to Disabled and set Legacy Support to Enabled.

5   Press F10 and click YES to Exit Saving Changes

6   Computer should restart and display Operating System Boot Mode Change type the four digit code and press ENTER.

7   Let Windows 8 boot-up and place the Windows 7 SP1media in the DVD drive or USB port, then log-off / shutdown.

8   Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the ESC key.

9   When the MENU comes up, press the F9 key and then select the correct UEFI boot source Internal CD/DVD drive, USB CD/DVD drive, USB Flash drive, etc. Press any key to boot CD/DVD, if prompted.

10   Select Language, Time / Currency, and Keyboard settings and then click Next

11   Click Install Now check Accept Terms and click Next. Click Custom Advanced.

12   You may need to supply Intel SATA/RAID drivers at this time Download Intel Rapid Storage Technology Intel RST RAID Driver from Intel if needed.

13   Where do you want to install Windows 7 Select Disk / Partition with Unallocated Space you created earlier and click Next.

14   Follow all prompts and answer as needed. Enter Windows 7 key when requested.

15   Please see the HP ENVY 15-k061no Notebook PC Drivers page  assuming the model name is correct for most Windows 7 64-bit drivers.

After installing the drivers, please post the Windows Device Manager s Hardware Ids   just the text  for all remaining missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;

Hi experts,

I just reimaged my laptop with Windows7.  Then installed some of the drivers from support page, HP hotkey driver is installed.  Now I find I can t change backlight  brightless via Fn F9/F10.  But meantime, I am able to change volumn via Fn F6/F7.  It s looks like only the brightless Fn key doesn t work.

Is there anything esle I should install.  Or any instruction to solve this issue.

Thanks.

Hello,

I have a HP dv6500 running Windows 7 for which I want to upgrade the pci-e mini wifi card to one of the intel cards available on Newegg, or perhaps a 4G card.

However, I have read that the stock HP BIOS has a whitelist for wifi cards, and only select cards will work.

I have located a modified F5A bios that I am willing to try:  28193 pid28193

I have also heard that flashing a BIOS from Windows 7 will damage it, and the recommended solution is to reinstall Windows Vista. Is there some way around this. Could I perhaps use a PE CD.

Thanks in advance.

Not that I know of.

Vista or bricked notebook is how I understand it.

A message keeps coming up on my laptop that says windows backup needs a CD DVD or USB drive to continue. Insert the required one.

So I went a bought a USB plug and this message is now coming up:

there is no media in the drive. Please write the following label on a blank media and insert in into E:

Does it have to be a blank CD that I insert to back up my files. Why won t it just back it up with my USB drive. Thanks.
